Reject Modernity, Embrace Tradition.

When I first unboxed my new ARM laptop, I thought it was the end of an era.
This thin, silent machine was a monster.
The performance was incredible, the battery lasted forever.
“This is it,” I thought.
“I can do all my work on this.”

So I sold my x86 desktop.
Why be chained to a desk when I have this beast in my backpack?

That confidence lasted right up until the first time I needed a critical piece of software.
I went to the download page and saw it: appname.amd64.

“Wait… where’s the ARM64 version? Hello?”

No problem, I thought.
My monster machine can emulate it, right?

Right?

Technically, yes.
It “can” run it… at about 6% of native speed.
A task that should take seconds turned into a coffee break.
It was unusable.

So, I went out and bought an old x86 ThinkPad.

Now, my backpack contains two laptops.
One is a silent, modern that can’t run my essential tools.
The other is an “obsolete” workhorse that just works.

This taught me a hard lesson: There is no ARM machine today that can fully replace an x86 machine.
But there are plenty of x86 machines that can replace an ARM one.

My next machine will definitely be an x86 one, inshallah.
ONE… Not TWO.

They say a smart person learns from their mistakes.
A genius learns from others’.

Have you learned the lesson?
